Meeting Day: Friday (Introductory)

This class is great for beginners. Topics covered: Board Set-Up, Piece Movement, Check, Checkmate, Stalemate, and Helpers Mate. All players will learn how to play a legal game of chess and recognize “checkmate!” by the end of the program. All classes are structured to include both a lesson and play time.

Grades K-3

Meeting Day: Monday (Fundamentals)

This class is intended for students who have a little chess knowledge, but need to learn all of the basic, but critical, fundamental strategies. Student must know how to move all pieces legally, and understand "Check, Checkmate, and Stalemate” prior to joining this class. Topics covered include: Basic Mating Patterns, Special Rules, Opening Principles, Basic Tactics, Basic End Game Strategies. All classes are structured to include both a lesson and play time.

Meeting Time (4-6): 3:10pm - 4:10pm

Meeting Day: Tuesday (Advanced Tournament)

This club is designed for “advanced” players. The format of this program will include a 15 minute advanced lesson at the beginning of each class, followed by a structured unrated tournament format. All games will be tracked, with a leaderboard updated weekly, and a winner will emerge at the end of the program crowned as “Best Chess Player at Green Charter Lower School”

Requirements for this class:

-Must have at least completed our Fundamentals program (introductory does not count)

-or, have a current or expired rating through USCF

Meeting Times: 2:50pm - 3:50 (for 3rd Grade) & 3:10 - 4:10 (for Grades 4-6)
